Treat unfamiliar publications with proportional skepticism. The number of convincing-looking fake outlets online has multiplied dramatically. If you've never encountered a publication before and it's breaking something significant, confirm it's being reported somewhere with a track record before you treat it as real.
Accept that being fooled sometimes is the condition, not a personal failure. The goal isn't perfection — it's not amplifying false things without checking. That's a different and achievable bar.
None of this is effortless. It runs against the grain of how social media is designed — platforms reward immediate reaction, not deliberate verification. Building in friction is a choice you have to make consciously, against an environment engineered to prevent it.
